Project Management
ZW Project Management Inc. provided full Project Management Services for The new North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC), which comprises of the co-location of the North Bay General Hospital, a 275 bed general hospital and the newly-formed Northeast Mental Health Centre, and a 113-bed regional mental health facility.
The NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving north-east Ontario. The NBRHC has 420 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services.
As one of the first Alternative Financing and Procurement hospital projects in the province, construction on the NBRHC began in March 2007 and the facility was completed on time and on budget in June 2010.
The NBRHC has a combined area of 700,000 sq. ft. located on three floors. Each has its own facility on a common 80-acre greenfield site to offer a state-of-the-art acute care hospital and a modern, long-term mental health facility. The facilities are linked and share common support services. Though a large facility, its organization is modeled as a series of small communities that respond to each patient care area. The main circulation, “Main Street”, runs the length of the facility linking all services, and the intersection of the two facilitates is formed as a town centre with shared amenity spaces. The main level of the acute care services is on the second floor with primary ambulatory and outpatient services. The critical care areas are on the floor above along with the medical/surgical beds. The lower level contains rehabilitation services and complex continuing care and rehab beds on the patient pod, with the support service below the main hospital block.
