PROJECT MANAGEMENT
ZW provided full Project Management services for the design and construction for this school, and assisted the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) in achieving their design-to-budget goal. ZW also assisted in the planning, along with the estimating for demolition, of the three existing schools that the Valour School replaced.

This new JK-12 school in Petawawa replaces three older area schools and houses 1,400 students. Delivered as design-to-budget, the Valour School opened its doors in January 2015.
Valour School is 126,000 sq. ft. of new construction located across from the new St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, which opened in 2012. The school design included provision for elementary classrooms, secondary classrooms, special education (elementary and secondary), science, visual arts, health sciences, and drama classrooms, a double gym, technical shops, administration area with principal’s office and two vice-principal offices, Guidance, and Co-op offices, fenced-off playground for Kindergarten students and two outdoor classrooms. The facility is energy-efficient, with full wireless connectivity and capacity for SMART boards in all of the classrooms.
This project was broken into two phases; Phase I being site preparation and constructions of the school, which included the clearing of trees and the use of dynamic compaction to prepare the soil to support the structure, and Phase II being the actual construction of the school, which included the structural block and steel building with a footprint of 7,755 sq. meters.
A Technology building and a 9-classroom addition, to replace on-site portables, were able to be included within the original budget envelope.
The Valour School can be followed on twitter under @ValourSchool, and found on the RCDSB website.
