PROJECT MANAGEMENT
ZW acted as Project Managers to complete the design and construction of this facility, while respecting the heritage character of the neighbourhood.
The Chambers building is located in the heart of Ottawa’s historic downtown, only one block away from the Parliament Buildings and facing the National Arts Centre. Surrounded by historic structures, it was essential that this building fit in with the heritage character of the adjoining structures.
The facility is owned by the National Capital Commission (NCC). This organization is a Crown Corporation responsible for managing, conserving, and protecting heritage sites in Ottawa and the surrounding area. Their goal is to ensure that Canada’s Capital Region is a source of national pride and significance.
A turn-key, leaseback agreement provided the NCC with a new fourteen-storey office tower and four-storey underground parking facility, all contained within a site bordered by three buildings of heritage designation which were completely restored and integrated into the development programme.
In order to meet the final delivery date, a fast-track design and construction approach was coordinated by ZW. Because of this approach, it was important to monitor the schedule activities to ensure that all deadlines were achieved, and the budgets were reviewed with the developer regularly to suit project needs.
